It's been a big year for Purple Stereo Countdown. We started the year as a group of friends with a vague idea of starting something and now we end the year with a functioning online record label with 11 full releases (and 1 promotional release) and a total of 893 downloads of these releases. Over the year, Mas and Comaphoria have joined the original Legavrik, The Noise Engine and Hypnic Jerk in releasing albums on the label. 2010 also promises to be a big year for us, with future releases from Hypnic Jerk, Mas and Legavrik expected, as well as an exciting new release from The Anti Psychotic Budweiser Combination.
Thank-you to everyone who has been with us through this year. You've made the ride a joy to be on!
Bucket Full of Fear, an EP of Elephant 6 covers by Legavrik, is now available for free download. It includes covers of songs by Neutral Milk Hotel, Circulatory System and Elf Power. The final track on the EP, Forever, contains vocal contributions from a number of friends of Legavrik as well as ambient/drum & bass backing by Mas.
Last night, Legavrik played Ocean Spray by the Manic Street Preachers and Engine and In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel for Open Mic Night at St Hugh's College. There are some photos from the performance in the Gallery, and one amazing person took a video of the performance:
Tonight, Legavrik played successful renditions of Neutral Milk Hotel's The Fool, Engine and In the Aeroplane over the Sea, Radiohead's Exit Music and Ocean Spray by the Manic Street Preachers. If you were there and want to see them again, or were unable to make it, you have another chance to see Legavrik play this Thursday in St Hugh's College Bar as part of Open Mic Night.
Today is the first day of the Scottish season of Legavrik. It also marks exactly one year since Legavrik formed. To celebrate this, Legavrik's cover of Oh Comely (by Neutral Milk Hotel) which was recorded after The Staircase Gig is now available for free download for one day only. To further celebrate this day, Legavrik are playing a gig tomorrow (see below) and will also be playing Open Mic Night in St Hugh's College Bar on Thursday of this week.
Sunday (1st November) marks the first day of the Scottish season of Legavrik, so, to celebrate the beginning of this wonderful season, Legavrik will be playing a gig in the Kitchen on the second floor of Maplethorpe staircase IV at St Hugh's College on Monday (2nd November). More details about the event can be found here.
Last night, Matthew Scroggs (The Noise Engine, Legavrik) and James Tweedie (Legavrik) went to the Holywell Music Room in Oxford to see A Hawk And A Hacksaw. Both agree that it was the best concert they have ever attended and recommend that everyone else goes to see them and/or buys their albums. A list of where they will be playing in the upcoming weeks can be found here.
